ADC News on Sep 2013 (System improvement, Software install/update)

Dear users,
We announce about "System improvement" etc. on a maintenance of
September, and the schedule after October.
[Maintenance]
September 2 (Mon) 9:00 -- 21:00
ADC analysis system is unavailable for the periodic maintenance.
A part of the open-use PCs and plotters are available during the
maintenance.
[Update]
- gunplot 4.2 -> 4.6 (Newest stable version)
The path of gnuplot will be changed to /usr/local/bin/gnuplot
after the update.
(symbolic link the /usr/local/bin/gnuplot to /usr/bin/gnuplot)

- Automatic recognition of HFS/HFS+ format (Mac OS X file system) on
terminal workstations (alws*, sbws*)
The terminal workstations in ALMA and Subaru open-use room (alws* and
sbws*) will be configured about an automatic recognition of HFS/HFS+
format (file systems of Mac OS X).
USB memories and disks formatted HFS/HFS+ file systems will be
automatically mounted on gnome desktop of alws* and sbws* after
the maintenance.

kmod-hfs, kmod-hfsplus
Usage (Users' preparation) will be announced on FAQ later.
[Note]
- About use of computer resources
If a user (or several users) occupy many resources (CPU cores,
memory) in analysis servers (anam*, anah*) for a long time,
and programs of the user(s) are influence other user's processes,
we will warn the user(s).
Please check user's processes in each hosts before executing
your programs.
In addition, "Check and restriction the amount of disk used"
function are being prepared (under operation in part), and
we will warn users exceeding the restriction of disk use.
[Schedule after October]
- Periodic data delete on local disk area
A periodic data delete in the local disk area, wam* and /wah*,
mounted on analysis servers (anam* and anah*, respectively)
will start at periodic maintenance of October.
* The files passed more than 4 weeks (28 days) on /wam[01-16][a-b]
and 2 weeks (14 days) on /wah[01-10]a are the target to delete,
respectively.
* The files check was executed on every week (Monday) in previous
system. However, in the current ADC system, the files check will
be executed on every month (periodic maintenance day).
- Operation of a batch system in ADC analysis system
The batch system in ADC analysis system will start after
maintenance of October.
We will announce detailed information later.

ユーザの方々にはご迷惑をおかけしますが、宜しくお願いいたします。
なお、共同利用PC と大判プリンタの一部は、メンテナンス中も利用可能です。
[アップデート]
・gnuplot 4.2 => 4.6 （最新安定版）
なおアップデートに伴い、パスは /usr/local/bin/gnuplot になりますが、
/usr/bin/gnuplot にもシンボリックリンクを作成します。
他の注意点などについては FAQ にてご連絡します。

・HFS/HFS+ フォーマット (Mac OS/OS Xの主要ファイルシステム) の自動認識
ALMA, すばる共同利用室の端末WS (alws*, sbws*) にて、HFS/HFS+
フォーマット (Mac OS/OS Xの主要ファイルシステム) の USB メモリ等に
ついて、gnome 上で自動認識できるよう修正いたします。
（ソフトウェアの追加）
kmod-hfs, kmod-hfsplus
利用方法（ユーザ側での準備）については、後日FAQ にまとめます。
[ご連絡／お願い]
・計算機リソースの使用について（引き続いてのお願い）
anam*, anah* において、個人で多くのリソース（CPU, メモリ) を長時間
占有する事例がいくつか確認されております。
それによって、他のユーザの作業に障害をおよぼすなどの影響が出る場合、
注意／警告等を出す場合があります。ご注意ください。
他のユーザの作業状況をなどを確認の上、ご使用ください。
また、ディスク使用量の監視・制限についても、順次設定を進めております。
こちらも、使用量上限を超えた（あるいは近付いた）時に、警告等を出す
場合がありますので、ご注意ください。
[10月以降の予定について]
・ローカルディスク データ削除ツールの実行
解析サーバ anam*, anah* のローカルディスク /wam*, /wah* 領域において
データの定期削除を10月度メンテナンスから実施する予定です。
＃10月度メンテナンス時点で、/wam[01-16][a, b] においては ctime で
4週間（28日間）以上経過、/wah[01-10]a においては ctime で 2週間
（14日間）以上経過したファイル等が削除対象になります。
＃前システムでは、毎週ファイル等のチェック・削除を行っていましたが、
現行システムでは毎月のメンテナンス時に、チェック・削除を予定して
おります。
・バッチシステムの運用
10月度のメンテナンス後に、運用開始を予定しております。
