User Account Application

Purpose of use of the system

The Multi-Wavelength Data Analysis System (MDAS) is used to do analytical research of data in astronomy and related fields. Massive numerical calculations and simulations using this system are not allowed. Please use another computer system operated by Center for Computational Astrophysics (CfCA) if you would like to do those researches.

Account grant policy

Those who can use the ADC Multi-Wavelength Data Analysis System are as follows:
  1. Employees at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan
  2. Researchers including graduate students in astronomy and related fields
  3. A person approved by the director of the ADC

For "non-residents" of Japan

Necessary for those belonging to a foreign institute

(1) A NAOJ staff responsible for your acceptance
You (except for those belonging to NAOJ Hawaii and Chile Observatory) need a NAOJ research and academic staff (professor, associate professor, lecturer, or assistant professor) in charge of acceptance. Please fill in the staff information. We will confirm it before the account creation. (It will be smooth if the staff contact us in advance.) If the staff in charge of acceptance is not specified, the account may not be issued.

(2) Additional procedure (gaihi-hantei)
From 2018, we must carry out a routine procedure for all "non-resident" users of Japan (users of an institute in a foreign country, temporary visitors in Japan, etc.) who will obtain a new account and use the system continuously. This is required to even people belonging to NAOJ Hawaii (Subaru) and Chile Observatory. Please refer to this page for details. Because of this procedure, it will take longer than usual to issue the account for non-resident users.

User account Expiration

The expiration date for the user account is the year-end of each fiscal year. An annual update procedure is required for continuous use. Information of the update procedure will be notified by e-mail to the registered address.

Application for account update after deadline

This page is to apply for a new account. You cannot apply for an account update here. If you would like to make an account update after the deadline (to unlock your account), please contact us (consult (atmark) ana.nao.ac.jp) and let us know your account name.

Access from the outside of NAOJ

for Non-NAOJ staff
If you would like to log in to the system from the outside of NAOJ, you need to use "the VPN service for the Multi-Wavelength Data Analysis System". To use this service, you need to apply for the service after your account has been issued.

Password Policy (Character Type Rules):
The password shall be a combination of 2 types or more of English lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols, and it must be of the length of 12 characters or more.
